I've always loved the look of the painted ceiling tiles that you can find at Eastern Market.   I've always found them a little bit out of my budget, so I decided to make my own using a stamp, some paint and a canvas.  The total cost of the project was around $20.
My stamps, the one on the right I hand carved from my own design and the one one the left I made from cutting uneven strips out of adhesive fabric foam and sticking it on a piece of card board.  You could also purchase a stamp with a pattern you like on it.
I used a paint brush to put the paint on the stamp, but you could also use a roller or dip the stamp directly into the paint.
Stamp away!  I was sort of going for a more uneven look and I like how the paint mimics the look of the paint wearing off of the ceiling tiles.
All done stamping!  Just waiting for it to dry.
The finished project.  I love how it turned out!

DIY Gift Wrap

I created this banner for a baby shower gift using this tutorial. I love how it turned out. It looks so festive! This would be great for a birthday present too. PS: I manipulated the picture using the Toy SLR app on my IPhone.

High (Literally!) Fashion

(Image via MSNBC)
Some very brave models rapelled down the side of the Revere Hotel in Boston, MA to celebrate it's grand opening. As someone who is afraid of heights (like curl up in the fetal position and cry for my mommy afraid) this is so amazing to me. The clothing was provided by students from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Ted Baker London.

Washington Design Center Dream Home

Yesterday I went to check out the Washington Design Center Dream Home. It was the different rooms each designer came up with. I only wish that they had included a kitchen and bathroom as well. I love me some kitchen design porn that is for sure (I hate to think who might be led to my blog when doing a search for that!). Below are some of my favorite rooms. You can tour the dream home through November 30.

By far my favorite room was the living room by Scott Cooke. I love the purple, yellow and blue color palate. I'm definitely going to be stealing it for myself.

The Mad Men inspired lounge was pretty rocking as well. It would be the perfect place for a relaxing with a martini.

This clear piano in the lounge was to amazing. It took all my will power not to bust my elementry rendition of "Heart and Soul" right then and there. Combined with the artwork of Shawn Smith, this was one of my favorite corners.

I loved this paper screens in the dining room. It would be a great way to divide up a space while still allowing plenty of light through.

And finally, I just want to curl up in on this little window seat with a good book and a kitty. Don't you?

Have you been to the Dream Home? Tell me about your favorite room in the comments!

Rainy Day Yellow

Rainy Day Yellow

It's been so rainy here the last few days that I'm hoping that some pops of bright yellow will help bring back the sun.

Concrete Fruit Bowl

(Image via FMC design)

At my day job we are all really obsessed with the look of concrete counters, which unfotunately stain like there is no tomorrow and so are not the most practical kitchen counter material. What about using a concrete bowl to incorporate that look into your kitchen? I found the pictured bowl on Etsy. Although I'm not sure I would want to use this for anything other holding fruit, chips, or somthing else that is sure not to stain. That bowl certainly does make those apples look might tasty. Would you ever use a concrete bowl?

(Oh and the same seller has concrete lamps and pendants too! They look amazing.)

Heart In Hand

Have you ever tried a lemon plum? The flavor is like a cross between a peach and a plum and the inside it bright yellow. This little guy was too cute not to take a picture of.

Happy Friday everyone!

Vintage Disney Map

How cute would this map be framed in a kid's room. Even though I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 9 I'm pretty confident I would still know my way around. (Image via Vintage Disneyland Tickets)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Last night I participated in Looped Yarn Works' yarn bombing of Dupont Circle. It really is the most cozy form of vandalism. I hope that it brightens the day of lots of Washingtonians. Maybe the POTUS will see it! How exciting. I hope you all have an exciting Valentine's Day with lots of loving. In the meantime enjoy some pictures of the event. They hope to make it a yearly event so mark your calendars now!

Crystal City Couture

Friday night I head out with some friends to Crystal City Couture, a fashion and trunk show featuring local designers and businesses held in the Crystal City Shops. It was nice to see so many local designers in one place all supporting each other. My personal favorites though were the vintage stores (of course!) and the gorgeous hair and make up by W Salon and Ink Cosmetics. They were also giving out cupcakes, so that didn't hurt my admiration of them either. Below are some pics I managed to snap of the event.

An adorable knit dress from Our Secret Closet

Two designs from Maven Style Studios

Not only could you watch the runway shows, but afterward you could shop at one of the booths.

They even had free Henna Tattoos

At the National Portrait Gallery

Just Beachy

So every single one of my facebook friends have all decided to go on beach vacation at the same time (yes all 400 of the I swear) and post meticulous accounts of their day-to-day beach activites. So unfair when all I'm craving is a little sun. Hopefully the little collection below will help me beat the winter blues without running off to St. Barts.

Desserts from Restaurant Week

Last week the boyfriend and I headed out to two different restaurants for Restaurant Week, PS7 and 2100 Prime, which is located in the Fairfax Hotel.

Food wise I thought both restaurants we very good and we got good sized portions at both. At PS7 we did end up having to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time for our table. So I definitely reccommend trying to get as early a seating as possible if you do go there.

I actually was surprised by how much I enjoyed 2100 Prime. Formerly, the Jockey Club, it still has horse pictures on the wall and the most intricately carved wooden bar that I have ever seen. It was very low key and great place to spend dinner with friends whom you haven't seen in a while and want to catch up with. Also, they definitely had my favorite dessert hands down.

The vanilla cheesecake from 2100 Prime. It was like a giant oreo cookie.

I don't specifically remember the name of this dessert from PS7, but it was something along the lines of "chocolate, toffee, fudge and caramel, oh my!"

The lemon fluff dessert from PS7. Holy pajamas was this lemony. It was kind of refreshing after the chocolate etc. dessert.

I was really inspired by this orange and navy color block dress from Top Shop (as I'm sure you can tell). Now that I'm beginning to think a little bit more about spring I really just want to wear a lot of color block. How cute would it be to paint your nails half orange and half blue?
